  • Please make sure your child is reading the assigned book talk book. Book talk is on Friday, April 27. Book report essays are due at this time as well. Essays need to be typed using MLA format.
TUESDAY:  SSR (10 minutes)
  • Check illustrations for vocabulary words
Assignment:  Finish scene 3 from the play and continue with scene 4/5.
WEDNESDAY:  SSR (10 minutes)
  • Review game of vocabulary words
Assignment:  "The Diary of Anne Frank" :  Finish scene 5
Answer comprehension questions over the play.

THURSDAY:  SSR ( 10 minutes)
Assignment:  Introduce Act 2, Scene 1 of  "The Diary of Anne Frank"

Test will be on Thursday, April 19, since there will be no school on Friday.


MONDAY: SSR I have given a different format of reading logs this week. I am trying something new. The reading logs still need to be filled out similar to the other one.


Assignment: "The Diary of Anne Frank" Act 1 Scene 2 (pgs 490-496) Play will be read much like a reader's theater. Students will dress as characters and role play.


Spelling Week 2: Draw illustrations of homophones. Due tomorrow.


TUESDAY: SSR (complete reading log)


Assignment: "The Diary of Anne Frank" Students will meet in discussion groups to answer questions over the play. The themes of compassion and diversity will be explored. Students will discussion their assigned question and record a response. The responses will be shared with the class.


Week 2 spelling illustrations due.


WEDNESDAY: NO SSR

Assignment: Students will present their onomatopoeia pieces of work to the class. They will be grades on a 16 point rubric.



  • Week 1 spelling list: Students need to draw an illustration that would best describe each word. Due tomorrow.

  • Returned graded Tom Sawyer essays.

TUESDAY: SSR/CONNECT


Assignment: Students will present their onomatopoeia pieces of work to the class.



  • Spelling illustrations due.

WEDNESDAY: SSR/VISUALIZE


Assignment: Introduce the play, "Diary of Anne Frank"


Students will examine a map of Europe and discuss how Adolf Hitler came to power and what events were occurring.


Each student will role play the characters as the play is read. There will be props used for the readers.


THURSDAY: SSR/QUESTION


Assignment: "The Diary of Anne Frank": Act 1 Scene 1 and Scene 2



  • Discuss the two types of conflict: external and internal conflict

Assignment: The skill of onomatopoeia will be introduced today with notetaking. Students will be given an assignment in which they have three writing choices based upon this skill. This assignment will be due on Thursday.
