I am giving the students a break to focus on their reading/writing for their book reports and book talk books!
MONDAY: SSR/VISUALIZE
Students will participate in a preposition warm-up to review for the quiz tomorrow.
Introduce semicolon and colon and how it is properly used in writing.
TUESDAY: SSR/QUESTION
Preposition quiz
Continue taking notes over colon and semicolon
Give handout over job shadow essay expectations.
Essay will be due on Friday, February 10.
WEDNESDAY: SSR/CONNECT
Students will create a variety of sentences following the rule usage of colons and semicolons. There will also be a short writing activity in class.

Mad lib activity using the parts of speech.

Cumulative spelling test: Units 1-5
Students will take a cumulative test on Friday, January 27. Out of 100 spelling words, I will choose 25 words. Each word will be worth 2 points, totaling the test to 50 points. Students need to study the words they missed on previous tests taken.

Introduce prepositions.
Activity: Students will be building a house based upon the prepositions given.
TUESDAY: SSR/CHARACTERIZE
Students will take notes over prepositions and prepositional phrases. They will be asked to create and identify both in a variety of sentences.
ACTIVITY: Students will be creating a poem based on prepositions. A handout with directions and expectations will be given and discussed. The rough draft of the poem will be due tomorrow.
QUIZ: A quiz over prepositions will be given on Tuesday, January 31.
WEDNESDAY: BOOK TALK CHECK-OUT
Students will need to have their book talk book finished on Febrary 24.
THURSDAY: SSR/ QUESTION
Rough draft of poem is due.
Students will meet with writing partners and edit poems.
Poems will be rewritten according to expectations on the handout.
Final copy of poem is due on Friday, January 27.
FRIDAY: Reading logs due.
