Agenda: September 26-30

There will be no spelling this week. Our class will be doing Performance Series Testing in the computer lab this week. Spelling will resume next week.


MONDAY: SSR: Connect. Students will take their Week 4 spelling test. We will be studying the components of fictional text as seen in the reading of the story, "Raymond's Run". Students will explore the concepts of exposition, rising action, complication, climax, falling action, and resolution. ASSIGNMENT: Read the story and complete the plot diagram for tomorrow.

TUESDAY: SSR: PREDICT. As a class, we will discuss the components of the story and meet with small groups to answer comprehensive questions. Students will be asked to give a constructed response to one of three questions about "Raymond's Run". The questions must be answered using correct paragraph format. This will be in class work.

WEDNESDAY: COMPUTER LAB FOR TESTING.

THURSDAY: COMPUTER LAB FOR TESTING.

FRIDAY: COMPUTER LAB FOR TESTING.

BOOK TALK DATE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7. PLEASE BE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS READ HIS/HER BOOK TALK BOOK BY THIS DATE.

OCTOBER 21: BOOK REPORTS NEED TO BE TURNED IN BY THIS DATE. EACH BOOK REPORT IS WORTH 20 POINTS.!!!

FIELD TRIP: WE ARE TAKING A FIELD TRIP TO THE SPRINGFIELD LITTLE THEATRE ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7. PLEASE HAVE PERMISSION SLIP AND TRANSPORTATION MONEY TURNED IN BY NOVEMBER 10.

MONDAY: SSR: QUESTION. Students will begin working on their autobiodoodles in class. Students will be introduced and taught how to use the thesaurus correctly. Assignment: Write 30-40 words that describe yourself. Due tomorrow! Spelling prefix page is also due tomorrow. Prefix quiz on Wednesday.

TUESDAY: SSR: CHARACTERIZE. Prefix sheet will be reviewed in class. Students will share their words used to describe themselves. Students will complete the rest of the autobiodoodle project.

WEDNESDAY: SSR: PREDICT. Prefix quiz. The rest of class will be spent finishing up the projects.

THURSDAY: SSR: VISUALIZE. Students will take Week 4 spelling test. We will be going to the book fair in the library to purchase books.

FRIDAY: NO SCHOOL!

If your child would like to purchase books from the book fair, we will be visiting the library on Thursday, September 22.

MONDAY: SSR: CONNECT. Students will be identifying pronouns in sentences and creating sentences of their own. Quiz over pronouns: Thursday, Sept. 15.

TUESDAY: No reading log today. Beginning of Year Writing Assessment. (District wide test given to all eighth grade students.)

WEDNESDAY: No reading log today. Continue working on the writing assessment.

THURSDAY: SSR:PREDICT. Pronoun quiz. Introduce verb tenses in class. Notes will be taken over this skill.

FRIDAY: SSR: QUESTION. Week 3 spelling test. 10 minute writing assignment using a variety of verb tenses. ( in class work)

BOOK TALK: Your child has checked out a book talk book. This book will need to be read by October 7. Please be sure that he/she is prepared!

BOOK ORDERS: Scholastic book orders are due on Friday, September 16. If your child is interested in placing an order, I have forms in my room.

TUESDAY: SSR: characterize. Friendly letters are due today! Reviewed the different types of nouns. Reflexive, demonstrative, and personal pronouns were introduced. Notes were taken in class over this material. Spelling list for Week 2 will be handed out. Words need to be written 5 times each in the composition notebook. Due on Thursday, September 8.

WEDNESDAY: SSR: visualize. In class work: identifying pronouns as they are used in pieces of writing.

THURSDAY: SSR: connect. In class work: continue identifying the different types of pronouns used in writing. Sticky note activity: Tell me what you have learned about pronouns.

FRIDAY: SPELLING TEST. We will be going to the library for book talk check-out. Book talk books will need to be read by October 7.
