This movie portrays the life of a woman who smuggled babies and infants from the Warsaw Ghetto during Hitler's reign.. She saved thousands of lives and  was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2007.

MONDAY: SSR I have given a different format of reading logs this week. I am trying something new. The reading logs still need to be filled out similar to the other one.


Assignment: "The Diary of Anne Frank" Act 1 Scene 2 (pgs 490-496) Play will be read much like a reader's theater. Students will dress as characters and role play.


Spelling Week 2: Draw illustrations of homophones. Due tomorrow.

Assignment: "The Diary of Anne Frank" Students will meet in discussion groups to answer questions over the play. The themes of compassion and diversity will be explored. Students will discussion their assigned question and record a response. The responses will be shared with the class.

There will be no vocabulary or spelling for the next two weeks. Students will be working on MAP review skills.

MONDAY: Students will watch the movie, "Tom and Huck".
Assignment: Students will be taking notes over the following themes that exist throughout the play and book:

  • differences between the move and book

They will be allowed to use the notes taken for the essay test which will be given on Thursday, March 29.


TUESDAY: Continue watching the movie.


WEDNESDAY: Book talk check-out


Assignment: Students be required to write a book review over the book talk chosen. A handout will be given for this essay. It will need to be typed in MLA format. Essays will have to be typed at home due to the lack of availability of the computer labs.


DUE DATE FOR ESSAY: APRIL 27.


THURSDAY: Essay test over The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Students will be given 4 essay questions. Out of the four questions given, they may choose one. Students will be allowed to use their notes taken from the movie.

Students will take a cumulative test on Friday, January 27. Out of 100 spelling words, I will choose 25 words. Each word will be worth 2 points, totaling the test to 50 points. Students need to study the words they missed on previous tests taken.

Introduce prepositions.
Activity: Students will be building a house based upon the prepositions given.

TUESDAY: SSR/CHARACTERIZE
Students will take notes over prepositions and prepositional phrases. They will be asked to create and identify both in a variety of sentences.
ACTIVITY: Students will be creating a poem based on prepositions. A handout with directions and expectations will be given and discussed. The rough draft of the poem will be due tomorrow.
QUIZ: A quiz over prepositions will be given on Tuesday, January 31.

WEDNESDAY: BOOK TALK CHECK-OUT
Students will need to have their book talk book finished on Febrary 24.
