Vocabulary: Unit 2
The following vocabulary words have been taken from the radio play titled, "The Hitch Hiker.".

MONDAY: SSR/VISUALIZE. Students will take their vocabulary quiz: unit 1 today.


TUESDAY: NO SSR. The vocabulary for unit 2 will be introduced. Students will brainstorm and complete a wordplay activity using the new vocabulary words.


We will begin reading the radio play, "The Hitch Hiker". Our vocabulary words have been taken from this selection. Students will will be identifying and analyzing foreshadowing and proof as it is illustrated in this selection


WEDNESDAY: NO SCHOOL


THURSDAY: SSR/QUESTION. Students will be watching the short movie version of " The Hitch Hiker". We will be comparing and contrasting the movie vs. the radio play.


FRIDAY: SSR/CHARACTERIZE. Unit 2 vocabulary quiz.


Students will answer constructed response questions over the radio play. This work will be done in class.

MONDAY: NO SSR. Introduced vocabulary unit 1. Illustrations with sentence usage of each vocabulary word due on Wednesday. Students will work on their rough drafts to their personal narrative essays. Rough drafts will be due Wednesday.

TUESDAY: SSR--VISUALIZE. Students will work on rough drafts to essay.

WEDNESDAY: NO SSR. Vocabulary game: Name it. Vocabulary quiz will be on Friday, October 21. Students will work with writing partners and begin editing/revising papers.

THURSDAY: Computer lab to type papers.

FRIDAY: Vocabulary quiz: unit one.
Computer lab to type papers.


Book reports for the first quarter are due Friday, October 21. Please be sure your child has filled out the book report forms and turned them in. Each report is worth 20 points!

Field trip permission slip and money ($10) needs to be turned in by November 10.

MONDAY: SSR: PREDICT
Students will begin brainstorming possible writing ideas for their personal narrative essay. Most of the work we will be doing with writing will be completed in class.

TUESDAY: SSR: VISUALIZE
Students will begin evaluating their writing ideas and narrowing the topic. Students will be constructing cluster models for their top 3 writing ideas.

WEDNESDAY: SSR: CONNECT
Spelling notebooks will be checked for words to be written 5 times each. We will examine sensory imagery as it is used in the writings of Maya Angelou. Students will be identifying sensory details and incorporating it into their writing.

THURSDAY: EXPLORER TEST

FRIDAY: SSR: QUESTION
BOOK TALK WILL BE HELD SECOND HOUR. STUDENTS WILL ATTEND THE SESSION AND DISCUSS ASPECTS OF THE BOOK THAT WAS ASSIGNED.
Students will take week 5 spelling test.

YOUR CHILD WILL NEED TO HAVE TWO BOOK REPORTS TURNED IN BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21.
